FIRST AND FOREMOST! The respect rule holds true in this dream. I don't care how much you dislike me or my co-owner or one of my mods, you'll behave yourself or I'll push you out of the ban-tree and giggle as you hit every branch on the way down. This is the Golden Rule. RP should be fun - being a miserable person is anathema to fun. Insults, admissions of OOC dislike, drama, and blatant immaturity will not be tolerated.
THAT SAID... These rules aren't to get you down or to stifle your creativity, and certainly aren't meant to be daunting. The reason for the excess is that we have found through experience that it's best to spell out the details so that when one is in doubt, they can go back and look for even 'common sense' answers. We all started somewhere, after all! It also prevents cheating, especially with an 'I didn't know better' excuse from more clever perpetrators!
Please feel free to ask if you don't understand any of our numerous rules. We will be more than happy to explain! Be aware that whether or not you decide to read them you will be held responsible for following them.
1. Keep it to Whispers - If you have a problem with someone else, take it to whispers. Do not let it bleed into the public screen. If you cannot settle disputes (over IC actions or OOC comments) yourselves, you may contact dream staff and we will step in.
2. OOC - Sometimes OOC comments are necessary. Keep them separated appropriately, and keep them to a minimum. Brackets or parenthesis are ideal, though if you have a comment that's just too good to pass up- use shouts. I don't want to be a nazi, but I find it better to have the rule and not have to call upon it than to try to settle people by employing the rule late.
(For those who don't know, shouts are performed by putting a - before your commentary.)
Necessary means [afk] or [brb], not [omg pwned!]
3. IC vs OOC - Ignoring or attacking someone ICly because you dislike them OOC is the most vile sin a roleplayer can commit. Please realize that if a character doesn't like your character, it doesn't mean that the player doesn't like you. Be sure as well that player knowledge doesn't become character knowledge! Just because your friend told you about the great heist or attack they were planning doesn't mean your character knows to be there at the right time.
4. Idling - In a nutshell, you may idle. However, you must be at your computer and prepared to play if you idle in an ic area and you must respond to posts directed at your character. Where your pixels are is where your character is in the dream. When in doubt, pop to the ooc room! The only exception to this is when moving to 'place' your character, which is best done with the !afk local.
Store owners may wear an away-desc stating their character is doing business when their player is away while in their own shop.
5. Consent - ICA = ICC. In character actions yield in character consequences. If you have verified yourself as a member and casual player, you have the right to refuse consent to character death and severe mutilation. There are conditions to being a casual player, however. Unless the outcome of a roleplay has been prearranged, your character may not threaten, attack, or otherwise maliciously and intentionally provoke others. ALSO! If you are a casual player, you are forbidden to inflict any act on other characters that you would not allow on your own. Be fair!
6. Characters - You must read and comply to the character racial restrictions for the dream! Yes, you can play in the dream without a character sheet. Shock and awe! However, in order to use any magical abilities or drastically effect plot, you really do need to get the character approved. Likewise, anything but a mundane furre (no crazy half-this half-that stuff!) requires approval as well. And, unfair though it may seem, regulars and members will be asked/expected to conform to our borg-like system! It helps us make sure that the setting is better for everyone in the long run, though we appreciate that it's a bit tedious and thus don't expect you to do it RIGHT NOW OMG.
7. Alts - Oh, the dreaded alting rules! Lord knows that I have numerous alts of my own, and I'm fickle enough to enjoy flicking between them. There are however basic principles to keep in mind. Your alts should not be sharing resources or information. It's considered cheating to have one alt suddenly know what another does. You may play as many characters in the dream as you want, but only one or two may have serious impact on the dream or a particular plotline. Be careful about having characters in opposing factions, as they should never come into combat or conflict with one another. The only mild exceptions to any of the above are that familiars may share knowledge with the caster they're bound to. Other animal companions may be startlingly intelligent at best, but are still animals. Familiars, pets, mounts, and animal companions played by the same player as the character to which they're attached MAY NOT support their handler in combat.
8. Membership - See the post -here- for details. Membership gives a player certain privileges that our visitors don't have access to.
9. Common Sense - This really is exactly what it says, but I'll create a little list for those not 'in the know'. No Primes, their consorts, their bastard children, or their second cousin's ex-piano teacher. You can be as gay as a peacock in high heels, but no m-preg. I will slay you. While we're on the lines of the absurd, no fucking children! Pedophilia is BAD. Have a weakness for every strength! No, you can't dictate what other characters do. No vampyres, unless approved by Mephisto. No- you can't play the furre version of that really cool copyrighted character. Or use that piece of really awesome art without asking the artist since it's NOT your character.
10. Adult RP - Keep the private stuff private, kiddies! I have locking rooms for a reason. Use them, or keep anything inappropriate to whispers. I honestly don't care what you're doing in there as long as nobody else has to see it, with the exception of the previously-mentioned lack of pedophilia in my base.
11. Is it fun? - Remember guys, the point of all the rules is that we're all supposed to have fun on an equal playing field. One may, with the permission of ALL players/characters involved in a particular scene, bend the rules. Preps can be skipped, injuries can be negotiated and assumed rather than played out, etc. Any rules however involving staff permission cannot be waived.
12. I Win - We work hard to make this place fun. If you have a problem with us, present it politely. Being a dick will cause the hammer to fall.
